Petroleum Marine Services organizes a safety stand-down to promote a safety culture among employees and raise awareness about work permits across all work sites, marine units, and administrative offices.
As part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to enhance occupational health and safety and environmental protection across all sector companies, and in implementation of the directives of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), the Petroleum Marine Services (PMS) company organized a Safety Stand Down to promote a safety culture among its employees and raise awareness about work permits.
The event was held across all work sites, marine units, and administrative offices, in the presence of the company’s leadership and employees.
This stand-down reaffirms the company’s commitment to strengthening occupational health and safety culture at its workplaces. The event aimed to highlight the importance of adhering to safety standards and procedures as a fundamental part of the company’s strategy to ensure a safe and sustainable work environment. It also emphasized the importance of preventing occupational risks and the role of each individual in achieving safety goals and protecting lives and property.
Moreover, the stand-down emphasized that promoting a safety culture is a strategic approach for the company, surpassing mere legal compliance, reflecting its commitment to the health and safety of its employees, who are considered the company’s most valuable asset.
The event included discussions on best practices in occupational safety, addressing challenges, and exploring solutions that could enhance performance. Employees were also given the opportunity to share their suggestions and opinions to improve workplace safety.
During the stand-down, special attention was given to the importance of Work Permits, one of the Life-Saving Rules, which must be issued and approved by all relevant parties before starting any work, particularly high-risk activities. It was emphasized that no work should be conducted without the necessary permits and risk assessment certifications. The roles and responsibilities of all parties involved in the permit issuance process (requesting, executing, and safety teams) were clarified. Signs were also to be placed in all sites, especially those classified as restricted areas, to reinforce the rule that no work should begin without a valid permit and a comprehensive risk assessment.
Reference was made to educational materials, such as OSHA guidelines, IOGP Life-Saving Rules, and the manual issued by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC – GEN – GL- 007 COW), as resources for effective implementation.
This stand-down is part of a series of initiatives and programs organized by PMS to raise awareness of the importance of safety and strengthen compliance with its standards at various work sites, contributing to sustainable development and ensuring everyone’s safety.
